Karen Meades, Adventure Runner Extraordinaire, May 22


In 2005, the Women’s Executive Network selected Karen Meades, Founder and President of Ottawa Health Services Network Inc., as one of the top 100most powerful women in Canada.

Karen is also an accomplished competitive runner, challenging herself against some of the toughest races in the world, including:


· TheMarathon des Sables: a 6-day (243K) endurance race across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. The MDS is affectionately referred to as “the toughest foot race on earth.”

· A 7-day (250K) race across the Sahara Desert in Egypt

· Race up the Kilimanjaro to the Uhuru summit peak (5,895 m high)

· Montreal Ironman Distance Esprit Triathlon: a 3.8K swim, followed by a 180K bike then a 42.2K marathon run.

· Swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco.

· Atacama Crossing, a 7- day self-supported 250K across the Chilean desert in March, 2013.

Karen began running 16 years ago with a 5K Running Room clinic. Come out an meet Karen on Wed., May 22 in the Training Room at noon. She'll be speaking on her experience as a runner and sharing experiences of her adventure runs.
