Hi Runners,
Weather this week is dangerous for running at noon. If you want to go out, be very careful to stay tuned to your body. Don’t push yourself or try anything new. Drink lots, at halfway point, pour water over your head to cool off, run slow, take breaks.
Tues- Jason is going to the canal; I’ll go the river route, but only for 20 mins. Heat =no good.
Wed-Yoga on the Hill (meet at noon in lobby if you want to go en masse)
Thurs-Ops is having their team building scavenger hunt so I’ll be involved in that. Eric and Jason, over to you.
Look at these beautiful, colourful people! This was Tuesday's run in the 38 degree (w humidex) weather. This is what we all looked like *before* the run.

Mud and Obstacles, Sept.1 –Looking for a team of 4 brave runners
Lawrence, one of our regional runners, suggested that we get a team together for the Mudd Sweat and Tears Obstacle Race, Aug.31 (10K) or Sept.1 (5K) at Wilderness Tours Resort. Check out the vid. Cost until June 30 for a team of 4 for the 5K at Wilderness Tours Resort is $81 per person. Let me know if you’re keen and we’ll get a team together. I could be talked into it….I think ….
You’ve never seen ultramarathoning like this!! On Sunday, Ray Zahab started running 2,300K across the Gobi desert in Mongolia. Check out his motivational video on his journeys. He’ll be speaking to us on Sept 11 or 12 so be prepared to be WOWed!! Ray is also great about responding on Twitter. Follow his journey at @GOi2P. Tell him you’re part of our Run Club and wish him all the best. Small messages of encouragement mean a lot to these guys when they are out running 70 to 80K a day.
Yesterday’s presentation on Posture, Technique, Shoes
Great presentation by Dr. Sasha Hamid who is passionate about good health, good posture and an active lifestyle. If you missed her presentation, you can watch the recording (thx to Jason!) which is saved on the P drive. So glad we had regional runners tuning in! Love that! Sasha also sent me an article on barefoot running--send me an email to get it.
Next speaker will be July 17 when Andrea Moritz returns to talk about being the Canadian Ambassador to Comrades, the grueling 89K South African racethat people run again and again.
HEAL forum article from Ottawa Board of Health
We gets kudos for promoting active living, creating a workplace culture and community of active employees and connection to the larger run/fitness community. Key to our success— communication, multiple levels, keeping it fun, executive buy in and you: a core group of consistent runners.
See you at 12:05 in the lobby with LOTS of water!!
